Recently, India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that it would initiate anti-dumping investigations against PA6 originating in or imported from China and Russia, with a relative viscosity of 3.0 or below. At the end of September 2025, the ministry also issued an announcement initiating anti-dumping investigations against PA6 from multiple regions including Chinese mainland, covering products with a relative viscosity of 3.0 to 3.6.

The local Indian tariff codes involved in the two anti-dumping investigations are basically consistent. Although they do not fully match China's HS codes, the first six digits of the internationally common tariff codes remain the same. The above tariff codes can be summarized into two major categories: HS code 390810 and 390890.

According to Indian customs data, India's import volumes by sub-category tariff code from January to October 2025 are as follows:

It can be seen from the above table that the product categories covered by India's two anti-dumping investigations essentially include most products under HS code 390810 and all products under HS code 390890.

Among the tariff codes involved in the recent two anti-dumping investigations against China, India imported approximately 191,000 tons of products under HS code 390810 from Chinese mainland, accounting for 68% of India's total imports; imports of products under HS code 390890 from Chinese mainland reached around 11,000 tons, representing 71% of India's total imports. This indicates a high degree of India's dependence on imports of nylon chip from Chinese mainland.

Over a longer time horizon, the rapid growth of India's nylon chip imports from Chinese mainland began in 2021. Among the major import sources for category 390810, the share of Chinese mainland surged from 10% to 69%. India's import volumes from regions other than Chinese mainland fluctuated between 2021 and 2024 and contracted noticeably in 2025, showing an increasing substitution effect of Chinese mainland's nylon chip over other suppliers in the Indian market. India's import volume of category 390890 has contracted significantly in recent years, yet the share of Chinese mainland among its import sources has also risen sharply.

According to China's customs data, China's total export volume of PA6 in 2025 was 742,000 tons, of which 216,000 tons were exported to India. India was the largest destination for Chinese mainland's PA6 exports, accounting for 29% of the total export market share, and also the region with the fastest growth in export demand over the past five years.

Tracing this issue, after India initiated the first anti-dumping investigation at the end of September 2025, PA6 exporters had responded to the case, with no definitive outcome yet. Since the second investigation was launched at the end of December 2025, chip exporters have been preparing materials for responding. Some suppliers noted that the products actually involved in the anti-dumping probe mainly feature a viscosity of 2.75 to 3.45, while products with viscosities of 2.0 and 2.45 are not affected at this stage-meaning HS chip is temporarily unaffected.

Since the launch of the anti-dumping investigations, suppliers have proceeded with case responses while maintaining normal shipments. The immediate impact has been insignificant so far, and follow-up attention will be paid to the results of the responses.
